Intuit QuickBooks, a premier financial management software, streamlines payroll tax complexities for businesses of all sizes. Offering automatic tax calculations, updates on ever-evolving tax regulations, and timely form submissions, QuickBooks prioritizes accuracy and compliance. Its user-friendly interface, combined with built-in alerts, reduces the risk of errors, ensuring businesses remain penalty-free and can concentrate on their core operations.

About the project

  • I took on the tax exceptions body of work, and iterated and carried through designs to developer handoff for Q2 launch along with the niche use case and tight parameters of the Washington Labor & Industries compliance work. Drove customer interviews for the tax landing page prototypes including rapid iteration tests and detailed visual work. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly in new environments and take the lead to move the team forward.

  • Onboarded while peak compliance work was incoming and worked with tax operations and development partners to address compliance gaps in the tax setup flow. Now driving the design work for state tax identification applications in product and creating prototypes and designs to drastically reduce the number of small business’s with state tax ID issues. Demonstrated ownership of design work and ability to think creatively in complex problem-solving situations.

  • Innovation Week project working with PM and design partners to explore predictions for inventory and import-based small-medium sized businesses. Worked within tight deadlines and quick turnaround times to reveal key insights and create actionable prototypes to test assumptions with customers. Demonstrated flexibility and collaboration with team members to move quickly and intentionally.

  • Kicked off the pay history design work including running customer empathy sessions and brainstorming sessions with stakeholders and then creating documentation for new design handoff. Demonstrated ability to adapt with a new team and build the foundation for future design work while engaging all stakeholders.

Cross-team tax setup proposal

As a newcomer to the team, I dedicated a small portion of my time to deep diving into the collective payroll tax setup experience with the goal of proposing overarching improvements for our customers. Before leaving Intuit, I presented this work to PM, engineering, and design stakeholders across the company.

What my team says about me

Design partner

There’s so much to say about Briana! She’s a force, to be sure - and in all the right ways. From the get-go, she’s been a fabulous collaborator. Always willing to jump in and take things to the next level with her design partners… Thanks to her generous spirit of collaboration - and commitment to true north design - our team has been able to deliver on some very demanding and complicated asks under very tight deadlines. And have a lot of fun in the process! I’m so looking forward to seeing where she’s headed - and hoping to be part of the ride!

Engineering partner

I think Briana is a go-getter. She is always willing to dive in and explore the work she is assigned from a fresh perspective and with a positive attitude. I also believe she is bold in expressing her design opinions, which are always driven by a 'customer-first' motto. I appreciate that she pushes back without fear whenever needed. Briana is an asset to our team.

PM partner

Briana brings a fresh perspective and energy to our customer problems in tax setup. She is proactive and is not afraid to roll up her sleeves and attack a problem. She brings great ideas and can quickly turn our brainstorming sessions into usable Figma designs. I really enjoy her partnership and can-do attitude. Briana connects ideas in meetings with work she had been introduced to in other forums, enabling us to move rapidly and experiment concepts with customers at a faster pace. She embodies Intuits values of Stronger Together and Customer Obsession.

The bottom line

Before joining Intuit full-time, I interned for two consecutive summers. My first summer I worked on support for mileage tracking in the QuickBooks Self-Employed mobile app and the second summer I lead a team of interns to launch bulk imports, exports, and payments for contractors in QuickBooks Payroll.
